Clinical Supervision

Clinical Supervision in the State of Illinois with Dr. Collene Taylor, LCPC, NCC, CCTP. I provide weekly supervision for license, and license-eligible clinicians working towards obtaining their license in clinical counseling (LCPC).

Process of Supervision

I believe that supervision is a process whereby I engage a counselor-in-training in professional growth and development that will lead to therapeutic competence while safeguarding the clients of the supervisee. This growth constitutes increased knowledge, skill application, self-awareness, and self-management that will lead to a professional identity as a counselor.

Required Experience

According to Illinois Mental Health Counseling Association (IMHCA) you must meet the following:

  • The LPC License is not required to become a LCPC.
  • During your hours of experience you need regular clinical experience.
  • Your clinical supervisor needs to be: LCPC
  • The supervisor shall have met with the applicant at least one hour each week.  The supervision means the review of counseling and case management.
  • You must earn the experience in no less than 2 years.
  • You can earn the experience in any number of years just not less than two.
  • One year of experience shall be a maximum of 1680 clock hours obtained in not less than 48 weeks, including 960 clock hours of direct face-to-face service to clients.  Part time experience shall be counted toward the experience requirement.
  • Total experience required:
  • 3,360 hours of clinical experience total
  • 1,920 hours of face-to-face clinical services
  • Acceptable modes for supervision of direct client contact are as follows: Individual supervision: the supervisory session is conducted with one or two counselors present. Group supervision: the supervisory session is conducted with no more than 5 counselors present.
  • Supervision needs to be face-to-face.

Why Therapy?

Almost everybody can benefit from therapy or counseling at different points in their lives.

No one is immune to the strain and stress life brings. We can feel more or less stress at times, depending on a variety of factors, including the disruption of events themselves, our perceptions, learned behaviors, past traumatic events and other known and unknown factors.

Sometimes the lack of a supportive network, close friends and family brings the need to have someone to talk to about navigating daily life: new opportunities, connections, perspectives and reflections.

WithU Counseling Group serves individuals, couples and families, including adolescents and children.

Anxiety

Counseling For Anxiety

Is anxiety taking over your life? Does it feel like you can’t control it no matter how hard you try? Have you already tried therapy but found it ineffective?

If this sounds like you, I’m confident I can help. My practice offers the most effective forms of treatment, to get the relief from anxiety that you deserve.

When it comes to treating anxiety disorders, research shows that therapy is usually the most effective option. That’s because anxiety therapy – as opposed to anxiety medication – treats more than just symptoms to the problem.

Often, these are the symptoms of anxiety:

  • Nervousness, restlessness or being tense
  • Feelings of danger, panic or dread
  • Rapid breathing or hyperventilation
  • Increased or heavy sweating
  • Trembling or muscle twitching
  • Weakness or lethargy
  • Difficulty focusing or thinking clearly about anything other than the thing you’re worried about
  • Insomnia
  • Obsessions about certain ideas, a sign of obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Anxiety surrounding a particular life event or experience that has occurred in the past, a sign of post-traumatic stress disorder

Family Counseling

Anyone seeking healthier, closer family relationships can benefit from family therapy.

Our family affects who we are and who we become, both for the better and for worse. We learn our vocabulary, our habits, our customs and rituals, and how to view and observe the world around us.

Common reasons for seeking family therapy include:

  • Divorce
  • Parent-child conflict
  • Problems between siblings
  • Domestic violence
  • The unexpected or traumatic loss of a family member

Family therapy is necessary to address family issues and heal a family’s wounds. If any of the above scenarios resonate with your family, consider seeking family therapy. Family therapy can be beneficial on many different levels.

Some positive family therapy outcomes are:

  • Strategies to develop and maintain boundaries
  • Fostered sense of cohesion and communication among family members
  • Promotes problem-solving through an understanding of family patterns and dynamics
  • Builds empathy and understanding.
  • Reduces family conflict

Studies show that family therapy is particularly important for families with members who struggle with substance abuse, eating disorders and other behavioral issues. When the whole family grows, each member is better off.
